Passed on to be reunited with his savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ, on April 5th, 2018. Don was born on July 15, 1934 in Indiana, PA, on the west end of Philadelphia Street. He attended Indiana public schools graduating from Indiana Jr-Sr High School in 1952. After spending a year in college studying art, Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where he served stateside at Chanute Air Force Base teaching Avionics. Following his active duty discharge he went to work for the Pennsylvania Air National Guard at the Pittsburgh Airport. He started off as a mechanic on F-86's and F-106's. During the Vietnam era, he was an Avionics technician on the A-7's. He was also head of the Avionics department at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics during that period. He retired from the Air Force Reserve and the Air National Guard as a Chief Master Sergeant with many decorations. His final job was serving as Head of Maintenance on the KC-135 refueling tankers. Don was a past member and President of the South Park Historical Society. He was also a member of American Legion Post 712 in Jefferson Hills. Don was preceded in death by his parents, the late Harry J. Taylor and Florence (Smith) Taylor of Indiana, PA; his older brother, Blair E. Taylor; and younger sister, Yvonne (Taylor) Foster. Don married his high school sweetheart, Janet Winslow, on December 26th, 1957 at the Graystone Presbyterian Church in Indiana. His most beloved wife of 60 years survives him. After moving to the Pittsburgh area in 1957, he eventually settled in South Park Township where he resided for 55 years. His son, Stephen Taylor of Mount Lebanon survives him, as well as his daughter, Beverly (Taylor) Kennedy of Ingram, PA, along with her husband, Mark, and Don's grandson, Patrick Kennedy. He is also survived by his younger brother, Bruce C. Taylor of Polk City, FL, and his aunt Lois (Smith) Anderson of Indiana, PA. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, April 10, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, April 11, 10 AM. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to the South Park Historical Society or the South Park Library.
